Police hands over the Lasantha's murder case to CID

According to Police, Sri Lankan ruggerite and former Havelock SC captain Wasim Thajudeen ’s murder, journalist and cartoonist Pradeep Eknaligoda case, Rathupaswala incident and The former Editor in Chief of the Sunday Leader, Lasantha Wickrematunge’s murder case have been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department(CID).

Inspector General of Police (IGP) N.K. Ilangakoon in a special press conference held today mentioned that the cases were earlier handled by the Colombo Crime Division (CCD).

“CID is the most ideal and professional body to solve this type of cases and therefore I advised the CID to take over to investigate further on them,” said Ilangakoon. Police Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana further elaborating on the Wasim Thajudeen’s murder said that they received the government analyst's report only on 12 February 2015.

“The government analyst said that since there is no physical evidence he is unable to give a final decision as to how the death must have happened. However the IGP has advised the CCD to hand over the file to the CID,” said SSP Rohana.

According to Ajith Rohana, Pradeep Eknaligoda case will also be investigated and it will be a fresh inquiry. Lasantha Wickrematunge’s murder case which was earlier handled by the Terrorist Investigation Division (TID) and now it will be investigated by the CID
