Former Leader of LTTE Women's Sea Tiger Wing arrested

The former Leader of the Women's Wing of the LTTE's Sea Tigers has been taken into custody at the Bandaranaike International Airport as she was attempting to leave the country. Police said the suspect, identified as 41-year-old Burugesu Pahiradi, was arrested at the airport yesterday by the Terrorism Investigation Division (TID).

According to police, the suspect's husband was Subramanium Jayaganeshan alias Samiraj, was also a senior LTTE leader and was one of those handling the organization's financial affairs internationally.

Investigations have revealed that the suspect had been head of the Sea Tigers women's wing from 1997 to 2000. She had left the country for France in 2005. It had been revealed that she had returned to the country on February 9, and had stayed in Dharmapuram, Paranthan.

She was produced before the Aluthkade No.2 Magistrate's Court yesterday after her arrest and is currently being questioned under 72-hour detention orders.
