The Constitution of Sri Lanka which was introduced by former President JR Jayewardene in 1978 was amended again last week for the 19th time. Many are of the opinion that the Constitution was amended to increase the powers of the administrators or politicians and not to offer benefits for the general public. This view however can’t be made on Amendments like 13, 17 and the latest 19th.

A terrible thing happened. An earthquake, measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale, struck just near Kathmandu. Thousands were buried under clouds of dust and rubble as their homes collapsed around them. It was followed by aftershocks, one of which hit at 07 AM, measured 6.7 on the scale and shook buildings in New Delhi. As of the time of writing, over 2,500 people have died.

Maybe I am over-dreaming, but then it’s something totally beyond my control. I am walking. Walking in the North.  I came to Elephant Pass.  I wanted to see the monument in honor of Hasalaka Gamini. Hasalaka Gamini is a national hero because he fought to rid the country of the menace of terrorism.  So, whenever I come this way I make it a point to visit the monument.
