A major reshuffle is expected in the foreign Service in March, following the conclusion of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) sessions in Geneva, highly placed diplomatic sources told The Nation.
The Ministry is currently in the process of conducting a performance appraisal for the country’s top diplomats representing Sri Lanka in foreign missions across the globe. The appraisal process is handled by External Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunathilake Amunugama.
The “reshuffle” in the Foreign Service will be based on the appraisal, the sources said.
However, when contacted, External Affairs Ministry Secretary Karunathilaka Amunugama confirmed that there was an ongoing performance appraisal.
“But this is not something extra-special. This is a continuous process of where the ministry assesses the conduct of all our diplomatic missions across the world”, he said.
But it is reliably learnt that the positions of several top level diplomats will be changed following the Geneva outcome.
