Alcohol and Drug Information Centre (ADIC) and the Department of Community Medicine, University of Colombo jointly organized the Research Symposium on Combating Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs in National Development on March 26, 2015 at BMICH.
The symposium provided the ideal platform for discussion and knowledge sharing among health professionals, academia, development partners and civil society organizations in addressing issues related to alcohol, tobacco and other drugs (ATOD’s) in the backdrop of a developing nation. This initiative hopes to provide the scientific evidence based information collected by academia and professionals through research on ATOD’s to policy-makers and implementers, social workers and health professionals to drive Sri Lanka towards sustainable development by addressing the problems.

Two notable figures namely Prof. Diyanath Samaransinghe and Dr. Lalini Rajapaksa in the field of combating ATOD’s were presented with awards of appreciation. These honorary awards were given by Prof. Jennifer Perera, Dean, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo.
