The tragic death of former Sri Lanka rugby fly-half Wasim Thajudeen is to be probed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) nearly three years after the mysterious incident, police media spokesman Ajith Rohana said.

He said that according to the government analyst’s report, Thajudeen had died prior to his body being found burnt.

Thajudeen’s death was until now investigated by the Narahenpita police.

His charred body was found inside his car in 2012.

Fans believe he was murdered and the evidence swept under the carpet.
