Aries (Mesha):
The ongoing period is favorable for
foreign travel and foreign trade. You have come un-
der the malefic influence of Ashtamaya Shani Erash-
taka when Saturn moved into your 8th House on No-
vember 2. However, Jupiter exalted in the 4th House
and Rahu powerful in the 6th House generating beneficial effects
counter its malefic influence to a great extent. Besides, Sun directly
aspecting your Lagna greatly strengthen it. The period ahead is very
favorable for subjects who are writers, authors and journalists.
Taurus (Vrushabha):
Lagnadhipati Venus and
Saturn in the inimical sign of Scorpio in the 7th
House forebode ill for all matrimonial matters.
With Mars in the 8th Dusthana you have to be on
your constant guard to ward off possible threats
to life. Unexpected political office will come your
way due to the powerful Sun-Mercury combination in the 6th House.
Your skills in the field of arts and entertainment may bring you fame
and high recognition. Great success in educational pursuits is on the
cards if you are running the Jupiter Maha Dasa.
Gemini (Mithuna):
Foreign travel or a journey
to a distant place is likely. But you are prone to
accidents. Sun in debilitation and in conjunction
with Mercury in the 5th is sure to herald a period
of great success and achievements for you. The
ongoing period is ideal for reflection, planning and
stock taking rather than going into action. Jupiter exalted in the 2nd
House continue to confer on you wealth and prosperity. There is a
threat to life of your spouse if you are married.
Cancer (Kataka):
Lagnadhipati Moon is due to
transit in Taurus from 20.19 hours on Novem-
ber 7 to 03.04 hours on Novbember10 attaining
Moolatrikona status and she will again transit
Cancer from 12.34 hours on November 12 up
to 09.38 hours on November 15 to conjoin exalted Jupiter fortified
with Swakshetra strength. These two brief spells are very auspicious
and ideal periods to embark on a new venture. A setback to you po-
sition and authority is likely following the loss of beneficial influence
of Saturn due to its exit from your 4th House on November 2. Mars
transiting in the 6th House is very favorable for those nursing political
aspirations.
Leo (Simha):
The ongoing period is very unfa-
vorable for your mother. Setbacks in educational
pursuits and strained relations with maternal rel-
atives are on the cards. Thanks to a debilitated
Sun with Mercury in the 3rd, your popularity will
increase. A comparatively favorable period is ahead of you and the
minor setbacks in your plans and a decline in zest for work that you
had been experiencing are now things of the past. Rewards for your
skills in the field of mass communications and co-operation and pa-
tronage from peers and associates are in the offing.
Virgo (Kanya):
A strong Rahu in the Lagna as-
sures you of courage, drive and dynamism. Be on
your alert to ward off circumstances that can lead to
souring your relations with colleagues, associates
and relatives. You may also have to incur heavy
expenses and devote more time to helping others.
Your greatest source of strength is exalted Jupiter in the 11th House
assuring you of fame, popularity and a steady source of income. Put
on hold taking vital decisions relating to land and vehicle deals.
Libra (Thula):
A decline in your fortunes would fol-
low the exit of Lagnadhipati Venus Rajayogakaraka
Saturn from your Lagna. Be on your guard to prevent
possible injury to right eye and face. Mercury enter-
ing your Lagna as the lord of the 9th House gives a
boost to your personality and shore up somewhat your plummeting
fortunes. Mars in the 3rd gives you invincibility. Foreign travel for an
academic or business purpose or on an overseas assignment by
the state is in the offing. Incidentally, you have come under the final
phase of the Lagna Shani Erashtaka with Saturn moving into your
2nd House on November 2.
Scorpio (Vrushika):
You are prone to Illness that
can emaciate you and sap your vigor and vitality due
to your coming under the influence of Lagna Shani
Erashtaka following Saturn’s entry into your Lagna
on November 2. However, the special aspect of Ju-
piter over your Lagna and Saturn will counter the malefic effects to
a great extent. Lagnadhipati Mars in the 2nd House is a warning for
you to be extra careful in your speech lest you may hurt others. You
are also likely to suffer a slight decline in your position of authority
and power. Exalted Jupiter in the 9th Bhagyasthana protects you
from evil forces and brings you wealth, general prosperity and sta-
bilizes your status.
Sagittarius (Dhanu):
You have come under
the phase one of the three phase - Lagna Shani
Erashtaka following Saturn’s entry into your 12th
House on November 2. However, there are sev-
eral factors that mitigate the malefic effect of this
Erashtaka. You are likely to feel a new surge of energy and zest with
Mars in the Lagna. Lagnadhipati Jupiter exalted in the 8th House
gives you wealth, and protects your life. The Sun debilitated in the
11th, and Swakshetra Rahu in the 10th Karmasthana confer fame,
political success, gainful foreign travel as well as career success.
Capricorn (Makara):
Mars in the 12th is a warn-
ing for you to avoid risk taking and getting in-
volved in clashes and disputes. Distant journeys,
possibly foreign travel, success in higher educa-
tion, fame and prosperity are in the offing with
Swakshetra Rahu in the 9th Bhagyasthana. Your
favorable period continues with Jupiter exalted in the 7th conferring
on you fame, high status, career success, conjugal happiness, gains
and co-operation from business partners. Sun-Mercury combination
in the 10th Karmasthana points to a rise in your career.
Aquarius (Kumbha):
You have to brace yourself
to face attempts at tainting your reputation. Loss of
employment is possible if you are running a Dasa
of Saturn. You are strongly advised to steer clear of
involvements that can become prejudicial to your
honor and status. Gains from partnerships and pro-
tection from physical harm are assured with Swakshetra Rahu in the
8th.Your favorable period continues with Jupiter continuing transit in
the 6th House in exaltation.
Pisces (Meena):
Lagnadhipati Jupiter casting
his special aspect over your Lagna while being
exalted in the 5th House assures you a period
of great success. Mars in the 10th Karmasthana
commanding Digbala brings fame and a rise in your career. If you
are in Foreign Service, you can look forward to the posting to a lu-
crative position overseas. The Ashtamaya Shani Erashtaka troubling
you has ended with Saturn entering your 9th House on November 2.
Swakshetra Venus already in this House will bestow on you courage,
fame and prosperity.

‘Destiny’ the English transla-
tion of the third and final tril-
ogy on social transformation
authored by Martin Wickrama-
singhe (Gamperaliya, Kaliyu-
gaya and Yuganthaya) has just
been published by Sarasa (Pvt)
Ltd.
The narrative of the tril-
ogy links three generations
descended from the Kaisaru-
wattes, a family of the gentry
of a Southern coastal village.
Gamperaliya (translated as
‘The Village’) is the story of the
first and second generations in
a changing village culture in
the latter half of the 19th Cen-
tury. Kaliyugaya (The Age of
Kali) deals with the urbanized,
anglophile second and third
generations, living in Colombo
from the early part of the 20th
Century but still sustaining
links with the village.
‘Yuganthaya’ (Destiny) is the
story of the fourth generation.
This generation is completely
anglophile in dispensation
and oblivious of their village
origins. Inevitably the des-
tiny of the new generation of
the educated rural professional
class of the mid 20th Century
becomes linked to that of this
fourth generation. Tissa is the
only second generation Kaisa-
ruwatte surviving in ‘Destiny’.
He has preserved some of his
simple humane village values
by cultivating a hard protec-
tive, cynical and skeptical in-
tellectual shell and a lifestyle
bordering on asceticism.
The central characters are
Saviman Kabalana, the unre-
lenting capitalist, his son Malin
a socialist trade union leader
educated in England rebelling
against his father and his busi-
ness empire, Malin’s sophistica-
led young sister Chamari, also
a rebel against the snobbish
elitism of her own anglophile
class, and Aravinda, the bright
village lad who has become a
gifted surgeon and seeks entry
into the urban social elite class
of Colombo
The English translations of
the first two parts of the tril-
ogy were previously published
by Sarasa (Pvt) Ltd.
