Ador, the K-pop girl group NewJeans' agency, has filed a complaint seeking to ban the group's music activities, according to the group Thursday, marking the latest development in the ongoing dispute between the agency and the artists.
The group, which rebranded as NJZ early last month, revealed on its social media that Ador filed the complaint on Feb. 11, demanding the court prohibit the group from "all music activities, including songwriting and performances," as well as related promotional endeavors.
The latest legal action expands upon Ador's previous request for the group to stop commercial activities while maintaining the agency's status as their official representation.
NJZ claimed Ador is essentially attempting to prevent them from participating in any entertainment activities whatsoever.
"It is an attempt to compromise our professional freedom," the group said, adding "NJZ's core is music activities, so constraining this is tantamount to denying our existential value."
Ador, however, countered that the latest legal action was "inevitable" as the group continued music activities, including plans for overseas performances, amid the ongoing legal dispute over the agency's representation.
"We are not trying to restrict their activities, but to warn them to maintain their activities while adhering to contractual agreements signed with Ador," it said.
The first court hearing on the matter is scheduled for Friday morning. (Yonhap)
