Driver of Nissan Sentra suffers critical injuries; officer expected to be OK
APOPKA, Fla. – An Apopka police officer was injured early Thursday when his patrol cruiser was struck by a wrong-way driver and overturned on State Road 436 in Orange County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The wreck happened around 1 a.m. on S.R. 436 near Otter Lane, east of U.S. 441.
The FHP said a Nissan Sentra was driving in the wrong direction without any lights on when it crashed head-on into the Apopka police cruiser, which was transporting a person to a hospital.
The police officer and the passenger in the cruiser were taken to a hospital but were expected to be OK, troopers said.
The driver who struck the Apopka cruiser suffered critical injuries, according to the FHP.
No other details have been released.
