Attempt to set door to home alight in Newtownabbey early hours arson attack

Attempts were made to set the front door of a property in Newtownabbey alight in an early hours arson attack.

Police are appealing for information following the arson at residential premises in the Blackrock Mews area at around 2am on Sunday, November 10.

The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service said attempts had been made to set the front door of the property alight. Some damage was caused to the door, but nobody was inside the property during the incident.

Detective Sergeant Crothers said: “Shortly before 2am, it was reported to police by colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service that attempts had been made to set the front door of the property alight. No one was inside the property during the incident and some damage has been caused to the front door.

“Enquiries are ongoing and police would appeal to anyone with any information, or who may have witnessed the incident, or have any dashcam/CCTV footage to contact them on 101, quoting reference number 174 10/11/24. A report can be made using the online reporting form via www.psni.police.uk/makeareport. Information can also be provided to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or online at www.crimestoppers-uk.org.”
