Bangor damage to businesses and vehicles 'deeply concerning', MP says

An MP says an incident in which business premises were vandalised and 12 cars "tampered with" in Bangor is "very concerning".

Police are investigating the incident that was reported on Sunday, November 3, relating to business premises' being entered and a number of cars being damaged in the town's Balloo Avenue area.

Police said they believe up to 12 vehicles had been tampered with, with a business also being entered and vandalised in the early hours of the morning. Two window panes were smashed, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage.

In an appeal for information, Inspector Hanna said: “We received a report on Sunday, 3rd November that a business premises had been entered and vandalised during the early hours of the morning in the Balloo Avenue area.

“The suspects smashed two window panes, causing thousands of pounds worth of damage. A parked car was also entered. A second nearby business also made police aware that they had a number of cars damaged or entered.

“At this time we believed up to 12 vehicles have been tampered with. Enquiries are ongoing at this time, with CCTV and other footage being examined. We are keen to establish a motive and who was involved in these senseless acts of criminal damage.

“Anyone who was in the area from midnight into the early hours of the morning and noticed anything suspicious or out of the ordinary, is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 699 03/11/24.”

North Down MP, Alex Easton, said he is "deeply concerned" by the recent incident, and has encouraged anyone with information to contact police.

He said: "Such acts of vandalism not only disrupt local businesses but also create distress for those affected in our community.

"I would like to thank the Police Service of Northern Ireland for their swift action and ongoing investigation into this matter. I urge anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity or who has CCTV or dashcam footage relevant to this incident to come forward and assist the police with their enquiries.

"Your cooperation is vital to ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice and to maintaining the safety and security of Bangor. If you have any information, please contact the PSNI by calling 101 and quoting serial 699 – 03/11/24.

"Together, we must stand firm against actions that harm our local community, and I will continue to support efforts to uphold safety and order in North Down."
