Amita and her family first came to Northern Ireland 14 years ago and spent their first two years living in Newry before relocating to Belfast. Amita is also a member of the Belfast Asian Women's Academy (BAWA), a group of women from across Asia who have made the city their home and are creating a positive impact in society.

BAWA provides platforms for women like Amita to showcase their talents in various forms such as art, dance, music, and culinary sports. It's also dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the heritage and culture of South Asians living in Northern Ireland.

The Oh Yeah Music Centre will play host to An Audience with Amita Ravikiran and guests next weekend. At this event, Amita will be sharing the stage with six incredible musicians, singers, and instrumentalists from diverse backgrounds—Nicholas Boyle, Luigi Cirillo, Clare Louise, Slawomir Chichy, Dr Shiva Kumar Arava, and Maria Rafferty.

Amita told Belfast Live: "These talented artists, whom I’ve collaborated with in various projects and events organised by BeyondSkin, have been instrumental in keeping me active and focused on my musical journey.

"I have done many concerts in Belfast and surrounding areas as part of various organisations and projects but this will be a unique and one of a kind event where I am going to present folk songs from my homeland with my Ektara, a one string instrument.

"The audience can look forward to a rich blend of traditional folk songs from Karnataka India and popular film songs, all brought together with the unique flavour of diverse musical influences. I’ll be performing songs that reflect the vibrant heritage of Indian folklore, alongside beloved film tracks that add a contemporary touch.

"With the support of a talented group of musicians from different backgrounds, each song will carry a distinct fusion of styles, creating a musical journey that bridges tradition and modernity. It’s an evening of storytelling, culture, and connection through music.

"I would like to thank Darren Ferguson, founder of Beyond Skin and the organisers of Sound of Belfast for giving me this opportunity," she added.

An Audience with Amita Ravikiran and guests takes place on Sunday, 10th November from 7:30pm at Oh Yeah Music Centre. Tickets are £10 and available here.
