‘Blast’ Reported at Site of Historic Church in Gaza: Report

An explosion was reported at the Church of St. Porphyrius, one of the world’s oldest churches, in Gaza City on Thursday night, according to The Wall Street Journal. The Greek Orthodox church was reportedly sheltering several hundred displaced Palestinians at the time of the blast.

A refugee at the church told the newspaper that he believed a child had been killed in the campus building where the explosion occurred. Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that a young girl was dead and “many others” injured at the church, which also reportedly sustained “severe” damage.

The Israeli military said it was looking into the matter, according to the Journal.
