RIGBY — A Rigby home was destroyed in a fire Tuesday afternoon.
Central Fire District Chief Carl Anderson reports it happened at 3:59 p.m. on West Main Street.
The back of the house was in flames when firefighters arrived.
“The fire had self-vented into the attic space of the kitchen,” Anderson says in a news release. “We were able to make a quick knockdown of the flames. Firefighters had to take down a lot of ceiling to check for fire extension.”
No one was home at the time, so no one was hurt. A dog was reported missing but was later found safe and sound.
There was extensive smoke damage throughout. The cost is estimated at $215,000.
Firefighters determined an unattended heat lamp being used to keep some chicks warm was the cause.
The Rigby Police Department and the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the response, along with Rocky Mountain Power and Intermountain Gas.
