Crash happened near exit to Interstate 95, deputies said

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – A carjacking suspect crashed a stolen vehicle along Old Dixie Highway on Thursday afternoon, blocking traffic in the area, according to the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the carjacking happened around 2:50 p.m. at 1520 N. U.S. Highway 1 in Ormond Beach.

The suspect then fled in the stolen vehicle, and he ultimately crashed near the exit to Interstate 95, investigators said.

Today, deputies assisted @ORMONDBEACHPD on a 2:50pm carjacking incident at 1520 N. U.S. 1. The suspect fled in the victim's vehicle, then crashed near I-95/Old Dixie Hwy. VSO K-9 units apprehended the suspect after he fled into the woodline. Video will be uploaded when available.

Afterward, the suspect fled into a nearby wooded area, though deputies were eventually able to catch him, a news release shows.

Around 5 p.m., video showed traffic near the site of the crash was blocked, with law enforcement vehicles lining the roadway.

No additional information has been provided at this time, including the suspect’s identity or when the roadway is expected to reopen.
