Cold weather shelters to open in Brevard County amid frigid forecast

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. – Though we should stay above freezing, low overnight temperatures forecast in Central Florida have prompted Brevard County Emergency Management to announce the opening of cold weather shelters in Titusville and Melbourne.

The county’s Emergency Operations Center announced the following shelters would open Saturday evening:

Titusville

LifePointe Ministries — 4220 S. Hopkins Avenue, Titusville, FL 32780. Opens at 5 p.m., serving dinner and breakfast.

Melbourne

Daily Bread, Inc. at the Joseph N. Davis Community Center — 2547 Grant Street, Melbourne, FL 32901. Opens at 6 p.m., serving dinner and breakfast.

Emergency managers in Seminole County activated their extreme weather plan for the weekend on Friday, gathering supplies for people who might need them through the blast of cold.

The coldest weather is expected overnight Saturday into Sunday, when Central Floridians will be waking up in the 30s and 40s.
