Saturday/Sunday severe threat

The primary threats include damaging winds and heavy rainfall leading to localized flooding.

The latest rainfall projections for the area Saturday through Sunday morning is 2-4 inches, with isolated higher totals possible. December is considered one of the driest months out of the year in Central Florida, with a normal value of rainfall totaling 1.09 inches in Orlando.

Rainfall potential this weekend

There is also a severe weather threat for the entire area. Northern counties are under a “marginal risk” and southern counties are under a “slight risk.” The severe weather setup will depend on the placement of the storm. If the Gulf low moves through the Panhandle, the severe weather threat will be higher in Central Florida. If it moves through the Big Bend area, the severe weather threat will be a touch lower.

Take note, in either scenario, a tornado or two will be possible given the amount of wind shear available in the atmosphere.
