Dad, 61, stabbed to death and his daughters, 19 and 22, injured in Brooklyn home invasion

A father was killed and his youngest daughter were injured inside their Brooklyn home and sources say the attack may have been planned.

Carlo Secondino, 61, was fatally stabbed several times and his daughter Liana Secondino, 19, was critically injured on Thursday morning in their home at 17th Avenue near 82nd Street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. 

Both suffered multiple stab wounds. Carlo was pronounced dead on the scene and Liana was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center, just days ahead of her 20th birthday, according to the New York Daily News. 

Carlo's eldest daughter, 22, also suffered minor injuries to her hands and was taken to NYU Langone Hospital.  

It was originally reported that two male robbers broke into the home around 6am and demanded money from a safe, according to police, before they attacked the family of three and fled on foot. The family does not own a safe. 

However, sources told the New York Post it may have been a planned murder. 

Police have not arrested any suspects, as of Thursday afternoon.

Police said earlier that they are investigating the incident and looking to see if it is connected to a family dispute, ABC 7 reported. 

There was no signs of forced entry on the blood-stained entrance, according to the New York Daily News.  

Neighbors said the family has lived there for more than 10 years and 'kept to themselves,' according to CBS News. 

Area residents are now fearful as crime continues to rise in New York City. 

'I've heard they got in the home, so I'm just really [worried] it could happen to any of us,' a neighbor known only as Jhonny told ABC 7. 'Pretty much all of us will be worried about it.' 

Overall crime is up 22.9 percent in the Big Apple, although murder is down 13.1 percent. 

However, rape, felony assault, and robbery are all up at 7.4, 12.6, and 26.1 percent, respectively.
