Colorado GOP Chairman Dave Williams on Monday announced a bid to replace U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn in Colorado’s 5th Congressional District.
Lamborn, who lives in Colorado Springs, announced Friday that he wouldn’t run for reelection this year to a 10th term in Congress.
Williams, a former state representative who also lives in Colorado Springs, tried to oust Lamborn in 2022, but his primary bid fell well short. He said he plans to remain in his role as chairman during his congressional bid.
“Authentic Christian leadership means serving others above self and not letting failed, say-anything politicians in Washington D.C. get away with taking citizens for ride,” Williams said in a written statement announcing his candidacy.
Williams was elected chairman in March 2023. His term ends in early 2025.
A fierce Trump ally, Williams is a controversial figure. He has embraced Trump’s 2020 election conspiracies and used his position as chairman to attack fellow Republicans he doesn’t believe are conservative enough, including Lamborn.
