A special discussion is to be held today (12) regarding the second dose of the AstraZeneca Covishield vaccine given to the people of this country to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
There are about 230,000 vaccines available for the second dose and it is planned to give it to the public.
However, the Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena stated that a final decision in this regard will be taken after the discussion of the expert committee held today.
The Director General of Health Services further commented,”The second dose of the vaccine should be given between 10 and 12 weeks after the first injection, the criteria we have identified for giving the second dose.”
There are currently 230,000 vaccines required for this. “We initially decided to give the second dose in 10 weeks. The current global situation is being studied,” the DGHS said.
