The United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has taken control of four websites associated with an Iran-based hacking group that claimed responsibility for a cyberattack targeting a U.S. company. The action was announced as part of ongoing efforts by American authorities to counter foreign cyber threats.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, the seized websites were linked to a hacking network believed to be operating under the direction of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence and Security (MOIS). Officials said the move is part of a broader campaign to disrupt cyber operations and transnational repression activities allegedly carried out by Iranian state-linked actors.
Authorities stated that the websites had been used not only to coordinate cyber activities but also to spread messages encouraging violence. The Department of Justice alleged that the platforms included content that called for attacks against journalists, political dissidents, and Israeli civilians.
The seizure of the domains is intended to prevent further use of the sites for malicious or threatening purposes. U.S. officials emphasized that such actions are part of a continued effort to safeguard individuals and institutions from foreign-backed cyber operations.
The Justice Department noted that Iranian-linked cyber groups have increasingly been accused of engaging in both digital attacks and influence campaigns beyond their borders. These activities often involve targeting critics of the Iranian government as well as entities perceived to be aligned with its adversaries.
Officials did not disclose the specific identities of the websites or provide further operational details but confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing. They added that the disruption of the online infrastructure is expected to limit the group’s ability to conduct future operations.
The FBI and other U.S. agencies have repeatedly warned of the growing sophistication of state-sponsored hacking groups. Authorities continue to monitor and respond to such threats as part of national security and law enforcement efforts.
The seizure underscores increasing tensions in cyberspace, where governments are taking more assertive actions to counter perceived threats from rival states and affiliated groups.
