POCATELLO — Wind chills between 20 and 35 degrees below zero are expected Wednesday evening to Thursday morning in parts of eastern Idaho. A few areas may even see wind chills as low as 45 degrees below zero.

According to a wind chill warning issued by the National Weather Service in Pocatello, the warning is in effect from 9 p.m. Wednesday to 11 a.m. Thursday.

The dangerously cold wind chills will affect areas in Mud Lake, INL, Craters of the Moon, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, Rigby and St. Anthony. Wind chills in those areas could be between 20 and 35 below zero.

Places like Howe, Arco, Mackay, Chilly, Borah Peak, Clayton, Stanley and Copper Basin could experience wind chills as low as 25 below zero.

Wind chills between 20 and 45 below zero are possible in Island Park, Kilgore, Dubois, Spencer, Small, Monida Pass, Targhee Pass and Raynolds Pass. A winter storm warning also remains in effect for this area until 9 p.m. Wednesday. Additional snow accumulations of up to one inch are possible. Strong winds will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow, with winds gusting as high as 60 mph through Wednesday evening and localized whiteout conditions and road closures, the warning said.

Blowing snow is expected to be an issue throughout eastern Idaho in the next two days and will significantly reduce visibility on roadways.
