GB News in huge shake-up as Eamonn Holmes' co-star replaced and another star axed

6 months ago 296

GB News has undergone a huge shake-up, with two presenters off air.

Mark Dolan revealed he had been sacked from the network. In a post on social media, he announced: "SOME NEWS. I’ve hosted my last MARK DOLAN TONIGHT on GB News. More to follow."

An hour later, he issued another message to his followers, where he said: "STATEMENT. GB News have made the decision to permanently relieve me of my duties at the channel. I will speak publicly about this in due course."

Some fans were convinced that Mark could have been axed from the channel after "throwing his colleagues under the bus" after he called out Laurence Fox when stepping in for him and Dan Wooton earlier this year.

On the show, he said: "Unless you’ve been living under a rock you’ll be aware that GB News presenter Laurence Fox appeared on the channel last night and made some offensive comments about the journalist Ava Evans.

"I wasn’t expecting to be here tonight. Dan’s absence tonight is beyond my control. Free speech is everything, but it comes with responsibility. Anything you say, or write, or broadcast, will rightly be exposed to the court of public opinion. I know. I've been there. And I'll be there again. Whether Laurence should stay on air is not my decision, and Dan's absence tonight is also beyond my control. There is an investigation ongoing. But the comments made by Laurence in my view were sexist, misogynistic and have been condemned across the political spectrum from the left and the right and even the liberal democrats."

Elsewhere, Eamonn Holmes' usual co-host Isabel Webster was suddenly replaced with Ellie Costello now replacing her.

A GB News spokesperson told Mail Online: "Ellie Costello will now co-host GBN Breakfast five days a week, presenting alongside Eamonn Holmes on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and with Stephen Dixon on Thursday and Friday. Stephen and Anne Diamond will continue to co-present GB News Breakfast at Weekends."

Discussing the role changes, Ben Briscoe, head of programming and talent on GB News, said: "2024 has been a truly fantastic year for us. Not only are we regularly beating the other established news channels, but we are also making inroads against the big public service broadcaster terrestrial channels. Our initiatives will allow us to build on this success with a renewed focus and ambition."
