It was a case of the master and his apprentice as Cliftonville came out on top in Sunday's BetMcLean Cup final.
With the game poised on a knife-edge in extra time Jim Magilton looked to his bench and they came up trumps for him.
It wasn't a surprise to see Joe Gormley pop up with the all-important goal as the 35-year-old has done in the big moment many times down the years.
Providing the assist for Gormley's seventh goal in five League Cup finals was a man half his age and starting out on his footballing journey, Ryan Corrigan.
Reds boss Magilton hailed both substitutes labelling Gormley a "genius" for contribution to Cliftonville once again.
"In the big games there are moments that the special players have, there's a sense of awareness and calmness, everything must stand still for them.
"It's the quality of the finish that takes it away from the 'keeper. When you have someone like that it gives you an added advantage.
"When you're bringing him on you just think goal, if you create enough chances.
"It's all about Joe's timing, that's uncoachable. His timing in the box is up there with the very best, and then he produces that quality finish.
"There are very few people who I have been around in my lifetime who have that. They are geniuses in the box and that's what he is.
"Ryan Corrigan does brilliantly holding off his marker for the goal and then has the vision to pick out Joe. He was a game changer as much as Joe.
"It's always about the critical moments and we just felt the game needed something else.
"Parsons had worked so hard and had had his moments but we just felt if we could get someone in beside Joe who could provide that burst of pace and energy we thought we could hurt them.
"They had to take McEleney off and Gerard was in my ear saying to get him on. At the end of the day the boy's done great and provided a wonderful assist to win a cup final."
