K-pop star Rain put in a brief but much-anticipated appearance at the opening of the Longines Hong Kong International Races at the Sha Tin Racecourse in Hong Kong on Dec. 8.

The 42-year-old singer and actor, whose real name is Jung Ji-hoon, has appeared in a string of Korean dramas including Full House (2004) and this year's Red Swan.

He took to the stage at the event's opening ceremony and delivered a series of his hits, including "It's Raining," "La Song" and "Hip Song."

His fans loved every second. "He is such a great person that he is a star shining on the stage," said Cindy Leung, 30. "Everything about the performance is strong. As a long-time fan of Rain, I enjoy this a lot."

During his performance of "La Song", Rain went out of his way to interact with his fans. "He is very accommodating to us. As a long-time fan of Rain, I enjoy this a lot," said Leung.

Betty Wong, a 43-year-old who has been a fan of Rain since watching Full House some 15 years ago, said: "Today, I made this trip only to see Rain. I feel it is worth it and I did not waste the time [I had to] travel from my place."

"I was looking forward to hearing 'It's Raining' before I came ... the performance was great."

Rain's performance reached its climax when he shed his black jacket before launching into "Hip Song", revealing his toned body and sending the audience into a frenzy.

The day-long entertainment program, which also included performances by Hong Kong band Zpecial, is part of Hong Kong Jockey Club's effort to add more variety to the annual racing championships ' event.

Not to be outshone by the show's K-pop guest, Zpecial played to screaming fans, horse racers and tourists alike at the racecourse.

"I started liking them in 2022, when I heard their song 'City Boy', and it touched my heart," said Yuki Lu, a Zpecial fan.

"I listened to many more [of their] songs later, and my favorite is the song 'Late Night Farewell Practice', which is all about enjoying the present moment, and makes me [connect] with this band."
