REXBURG – In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, local bakeries are banding together to raise funds to help those impacted by the storm.

This Saturday, Oct. 19, Rexburg local Constance Haworth is hosting a bake sale to support hurricane victims in North Carolina. She has many other local bakeries onboard to help as well.

From Sept. 24 to 29, Hurricane Helene swept through Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee. According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, 95 people have died due to the storm in North Carolina.

Haworth grew up in North Carolina and had the idea after seeing a friend’s Facebook post about a drive for recovery supplies. She wanted to send money to help and thought to host a fundraiser. She feels raising money for those people rather than sending supplies will benefit them more because there are no shipping costs.

Haworth owns Rexburg Cakes, so naturally, she thought of hosting a bake sale.

All proceeds from the bake sale will be sent to Haworth’s connections in Hickory, North Carolina. The funds will go toward small agencies, like shelters and food kitchens in heavy-hit areas.

“Needs are coming in daily, of different things that are needed,” Haworth said.

Thirty-six local bakeries from Blackfoot, St. Anthony, Idaho Falls, Rexburg, and Rigby will donate more than 2,000 baked goods to the bake sale.

“I need the public to show up for this and support these people in western North Carolina. A lot of them have lost everything,” Haworth said.

The bake sale will be held on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Rexburg CAL Ranch parking lot.
