A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his mother. Danny Heyneman, 31, said nothing as he appeared in front of Judge Ray Finnegan at Monaghan District Court this morning.
Mr Heyneman, of Kilnavert, Ballyconnell, Co Cavan is alleged to have murdered his mother Annie, 55, at the family home there on Saturday, January 11. He faces another charge of the attempted murder of his father Henk Heijneman, who is in his 60s, in the same alleged incident.
Detective Sergeant Sharon Walsh of Cavan Garda Station told Judge Finnegan she arrested Mr Heyneman in the station at 9.35pm on Tuesday. She said he was then charged at the station at 10.43pm.
The detective sergeant told the court Mr Heyneman replied "no comment" to the charge of murdering Mrs Heyneman and the same to the charge of attempted murder of Mr Heijneman.
Bail in a murder charge is not a matter for the district court and Judge Finnegan remanded Mr Heyneman in custody to appear at Cavan District Court on Friday via videolink.
Legal aid was also assigned to his defence solicitor. The solicitor also requested that Mr Heyneman be remanded to Castlerea Prison in Roscommon.
However, Judge Finnegan said Mr Heyneman had to go to a remand prison, which is Cloverhill in west Dublin. The judge said an application could then be made for a transfer.
