A tragic incident has unfolded in Co Tyrone after a man succumbed to his injuries following an assault. During the incident, armed police swarmed a block of flats after receiving reports of the assault.
The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) confirmed the man's death after being summoned to the Lisnahull area in Dungannon shortly after 8pm on Thursday. Afterwards, armed police were seen entering another residence in the area,
According to the police's account, the victim was discovered with severe injuries within a flat close to Corrainey Park, where he subsequently died. Following this, Corrainey Park remained shut while officers conducted further investigations.
A Northern Ireland Ambulance Service spokesperson reported that one rapid response paramedic, two emergency crews, and an advanced paramedic were dispatched to the scene; however, no hospital admissions followed.
Detective Chief Inspector Phillips said: “Shortly after 8pm, it was reported that a man was found with serious injuries at a flat in the area. Police attended, but sadly the man passed away as a result of his injuries.
“The Corrainey Park is currently closed as officers conduct further enquiries in the area.
“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and police would appeal to anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting reference number 1576 27/02/25. Information can also be provided to police online at https://www.psni.police.uk/report or via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111, anonymously and gives people the power to speak up and stop crime.“
Local Sinn Fein councillor Deirdre Varsani expressed the community's distress: "It is upsetting for people here. This is such a tight-knit area and it does impact on a lot of people and unnerves a lot of people as well," she remarked.
She added that while everyone was quite alarmed, there has been "Everybody is very concerned, but there has been a very high level of co-operation with the emergency services.
"People are just shocked. Everybody knows someone who lives here."
SDLP Mid Ulster councillor Malachy Quinn shared his sorrow on social media, posting: "Sad news coming out of Dungannon tonight."
He also advised local residents: "I would urge people to avoid the area tonight."
