A man aged in his late 80s has died after a road collision in Co Cavan.
The two-vehicle crash happened on the N55 at Clarebane at around 12.40am on Christmas Day. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Four occupants in the second car were taken to Cavan General Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries, reports Cork Beo.
A post-mortem on the deceased man will now be conducted at the same hospital. The road in Cavan remains closed on Christmas Day as officers assess the scene and local diversions are in place.

Gardai are now appealing for any witnesses to come forward with information or dash-cam footage.
A Garda spokesperson said: "Gardaí and emergency services are currently attending at a fatal road traffic collision on the N55 at Clarebane, Co. Cavan this morning, Wednesday, 25th December 2024. The collision occurred at approximately 12:40am and involved two cars.
"A man, aged in late 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene. His body has been removed to Cavan General Hospital where a post mortem will take place.
"The four occupants of the second car have all been taken to Cavan General Hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
"The road is currently closed for examination by Forensic Collision Investigators. Local diversions are in place.
"Gardai are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward.
"Gardaí are appealing for any road users who may have camera footage (including Dash-cam ) who were travelling on the N55 between 12:15am and 12:45am this morning to make this footage available.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Cavan Garda Station on 049 4368800, the Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station."
