A man who was clinically dead for three minutes has shockingly claimed he "saw what hell is like", noting an unexpected aspect of the ordeal. His mate, recounting the harrowing event, said his heart had stopped, casting serious doubt on his chances of survival.
The man had suffered an overdose and was written off as deceased while being transported to the hospital in an ambulance. Yet, he astounded medical staff by returning from the edge, even after being pronounced dead.
His friend took to Reddit to share the story, saying: "He [the man who was declared dead] remembers the stroke, and being wheeled to the ambulance on a stretcher. Then he felt like he was floating under ice cold water, and it was dark, but he wasn't really thinking or feeling anything emotionally, just existing and knowing it was very, very cold and he couldn't see. He then woke up to shocked EMTs as his ticker had stopped for so long they reckoned he was a goner."
While recovering in the hospital, the bloke claimed to have seen clear glimpses of Hell, which, contrary to popular depictions of fiery chasms, appeared to be intensely cold, according to the Mirror.
His friend added: "At some point in the following days he became convinced that what he experienced was hell minus the knowledge of suffering, like a toned-down preview, and thought it was a warning for him to change his life. Sadly he didn't stay clean for long.", reports the Irish Mirror.
One user commented on his post, saying: "Wow! This reminded me of a dream my mum had. She told me about it when I was a kid. She said she woke up in a room engulfed in flames and people screaming."
"Then she blinked and it was gone. She was convinced that was a sign she was going to hell. She's cleaned up since then and is a really good person."
In response, another user added: "That actually is supposed to be what Hell is like. You're alone in the dark, aware of being alone in the dark, for eternity. No fire, no demons torturing you. Just - eternal darkness and the awareness that you're alone."
A third user chimed in: "Working in a hospital and taking care of people who have been legally dead and have come back either on their own accord or with CPR, I've heard these people say that they felt like they were falling."
"They also wake up really confused not remembering the situation. To me it seems like what they experience is close to a dream that you're falling and wake up with a jolt."
