POCATELLO — A woman who pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of battery after she cut another woman with a knife has been sentenced to probation.
Teresa Marie Garrard, 60, was initially charged with a felony aggravated battery charge along with a deadly weapon enhancement for a 2021 knife attack. However, after reaching a plea agreement with the Bannock County Prosecutor’s Office, the felony charge was changed to misdemeanor battery, and the enhancement was dismissed.
During a Nov. 16 hearing, Garrard was sentenced to one year supervised probation by Magistrate Judge R. Todd Garbett.

Garrard was arrested in Aug. 2021 after Bannock County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of an assault at a home in McCammon.
Responding officers discovered Garrard cut another woman’s hand with a “large kitchen knife” during an argument. Witnesses told deputies Garrard threatened to kill the victim before swinging the knife at her through an opened car window. Three children were in the back seat of the car when this occurred.
The victim required medical care due to significant bleeding.
At sentencing, Garbett suspended a 90-day jail sentence in favor of probation. The judge also ordered Garrard pay $432.50 in fees and fines.
