Multiple vehicles damaged after car drives on wrong side of the road near Bangor

Multiple vehicles have been damaged after a car was involved in a number of collisions while being driven on the wrong side of the road.

The incident took place on the Belfast Road outside Bangor at around 11.25am on Saturday, March 29, when a Silver MG car collided with a number of other vehicles as it reportedly drove into oncoming traffic.

The car was spotted by police on the A2 dual carriageway but failed to stop for officers as they signalled for it to do so.

A number of vehicles are reported to have been damaged during the incident and two people went to hospital for assessment.

A man in his 40s has since been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and remains in police custody.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving this afternoon, Saturday 29th March, after colliding with several cars while travelling on the wrong side of the road outside Bangor.

"Around 11.25am, police on patrol heading on the Belfast Road towards Bangor observed a vehicle travelling towards them on the wrong side of the A2 dual carriageway. Officers exited their vehicle and signalled for the driver to stop. The driver, however, ignored their signals and continued towards Belfast

"Several members of the public reported that their cars were damaged by this vehicle, a silver MG, before officers quickly stopped the driver at a layby. Two people attended hospital for assessment. The driver remains in custody at this time.
