IDAHO FALLS – The National Weather Service in Pocatello is issuing a cold weather advisory from midnight on Tuesday until Wednesday at 9 a.m.

The main area of impact includes the Rexburg, Rigby and Idaho Falls areas, and into Arco and Mud Lake, according to a weather alert sent to EastIdahoNews.com Monday afternoon.

Temperatures as low as nine below zero are expected, according to the agency’s website. Dangerously cold wind chills as low as -25 are possible.

“These very cold temperatures will impact the homeless and people without adequate heating. Frostbite may occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these very cold temperatures, especially for a prolonged period of time,” the website says.

Meteorologists are urging people to stay indoors during this time and make sure there is adequate heating. If you must go outside, dress appropriately. Wear a hat, face mask, scarf and gloves.

Check on older family members, friends and neighbors and make sure they’re ok.

Keep pets indoors, if possible, and make sure livestock and other outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food and unfrozen water.
