Fire damaged the home on Elsasser Avenue
DELAND, Fla. – While the Grinch may have tried to steal Christmas, a group of firefighters in Volusia County may have helped salvage a part of one family’s holiday.
Crews from Volusia County Fire and DeLand Fire battled a structure fire at Elsasser Avenue on Saturday afternoon, according to a social media post.
The Volusia County Professional Firefighters Association said the fire in the home’s attic space was quickly spreading when crews arrived.

“Strong work by crews on scene suppressed the blaze and the interior crews were able to help salvage some Christmas presents for the family,” the post read in part.
Photos from the social media post show crews inside of the home retrieving presents from around a Christmas tree that looks mostly unscathed before a final photo shows the gifts piled into the back of a car.
