A fast-moving wildfire erupted in Humboldt County, Nevada on Friday afternoon, north of Black Rock Desert, where Burning Man is taking place this weekend.

The Cherry Gulch Fire started on Alta Peak late Friday and quickly exploded across the bone-dry landscape. Timelapse videos taken from AlertWildfire cameras show the blaze ripping through the hills. "A rather scary scene surrounding the Alta Peak fire camera courtesy of @AlertWildfire in northern Humboldt county," the National Weather Service's Reno office posted on Twitter.

According to the Bureau of Land Management's Nevada fire map, the Cherry Gulch Fire has burned 10,000 acres as of Saturday morning. Live cameras pointed at the area show much-diminished fire activity, however, so crews appear to have gotten the upper hand overnight.

Dangerous fire conditions are in the forecast for Saturday, though. The National Weather Service's Elko office issued a fire weather watch in Northern Nevada from noon to 11 p.m. today. "Dry air and gusty winds" are forecast, with southwesterly winds gusting up to 35 mph expected. Humidity will also be low.
