The search warrant that led to a raid of a local Kansas newspaper’s office has been withdrawn amid national backlash, the outlet’s attorney confirmed on Wednesday.
Bernie Rhodes, the lawyer representing the Marion County Record, told The Daily Beast that the county attorney’s office withdrew the search warrant that was served at several locations on Friday. The three raids occurred at the newspaper office, the home of publisher Eric Meyer and his mother, and the home of Vice Mayor Ruth Herbel.
“The Marion County Attorney’s Office is withdrawing the warrant and is releasing the property that was seized,” Rhodes said. “My forensic expert is en route now to retrieve the materials.
