Jo Malone is a household name for the classic luxurious scents that people can't get enough of, but after Jo Malone sold her namesake brand, she went on to start a new perfume company: Jo Loves. It still has her classic fragrance style but with a new twist.
Over on SpaceNK, 35% has been knocked off a 'beautiful warm, sweet and spicy' scent from the brand. Ebony and Cassis would typically cost £82 for a 50ml bottle but has dropped down to £53.30.
It opens up with juicy berries and dates before deepening into spices and tobacco. Dates have been a really popular note of late, with Lush's Sticky Dates being a viral sensation. It's rounded out with a base of patchouli, cedarwood, and smoky woods.
Jo Malone has said that the scent is perfect for those looking for a new start. She said: 'Ebony and Cassis is the first fragrance of a new era for me. It's about dreaming your biggest dreams, discovering your aspirations, and embarking on life's journeys.''
It's pulled in an average rating of 4.6 out of 5 stars. One shopper wrote: "This scent is amazing. This is one of the best fragrances on the market in my opinion! It's complex, has beautiful warm, sweet and spicy base notes. It is quite unique in scent and lasts ages and ages on the skin. Both myself and partner really like this and it is definitely unisex. Great as a treat or as a gift, I highly recommend."
A second penned: "Now addicted. My friend always has on Jo Malone either body lotion or perfume, so I took the plunge and now love it as well. There is so much choice in the range I think that it can be very personal to each one. This is my day time scent and I now love how it is still on later in the day . Will hint for birthdays and other occasions."
A third said: "I purchased a travel size version of this scent with idea what to expect. However, a couple of spritzes in and I was transported to the souks of Dubai. A very rich mixture of juicy dates, spices and beautiful berries - this fragrance is like no other. Although I thought it may have remnants of oud - normally associated with the Middle East - this fragrance is has a completely different twist and lovely for evening wear."
A fourth added: "I actually bought this without smelling it. The notes sounded right up my street. Not the usual Jo Loves citrus. Oh, this is just gorgeous. Hints of dark woods and the juicy fruits blend together, I would class this fragrance as unisex. Now, it does settle to close skin fragrance after a few hours. I could not stop wanting to sniff my wrist whilst wearing it."
Not everyone is such a fan though, one shopper complained that the scent fell a little flat for them. They said: "Everyone seems to love this but I found my sample to be sweet and couldn't experience the middle or base notes but I know perfumes can react very differently on people so maybe just not for me! I prefer the Diptyque range of scents but hoping Jo might make one I love too!"
If you're looking for another scent in this vein, Framboise Noire by Shay and Blue has been called similar. It shares a few notes, although dates are notably absent. It's currently £70 on ASOS.
