A major investigation has been launched after a 16-year-old boy tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident in the early hours of Sunday morning.
The young pedestrian was hit by a vehicle on the R403 in Blackwood, Co Kildare, near Robertstown around half past midnight.
Gardai are currently at the scene of the accident and have confirmed that the vehicle involved didn't stop. The teenager's body has been taken to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital.

The R403 in Blackwood is presently shut (between Graiges Cross and Dagwelds Cross) for a forensic examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators, with local diversions in place.
Gardaí are urging any witnesses to step forward. They're particularly interested in anyone who was travelling near Blackwood and Robertstown at the time of the collision and may have camera footage, including dash cam. "Investigations are ongoing," a gardai spokesperson confirmed, reports the Irish Mirror.
