Translink passengers frustrated at removal of key city centre bus stops and drop-off points

Bus passengers have expressed frustration at the removal of bus stops and drop-off points along a section of Great Victoria Street.

Translink has stopped the use of a number of bus stops on the city centre street between Shaftesbury Square and Bruce Street.

Passengers who would have used the bus stops have expressed their annoyance at their removal saying that while it will not have a massive impact on their journeys, it is another sign of their journeys becoming more difficult in recent weeks.

One passenger told Belfast Live: "It seems like everything that Translink has done in recent weeks just makes using public transport a little bit more frustrating.

"The bus stops and drop off points on Great Victoria Street were regularly used by passengers going to work in that area of town, but now they must either get off the bus earlier or go to Bedford Street, which is almost at a standstill during busy times of the day.

"They have already moved bus stops around the city centre which has led to buses getting stuck in traffic throughout the day. From 4pm it can take 20 minutes for a bus to get from Bedford Street to Dublin Road due to the traffic.

"I just don't understand what they are doing, does anyone that makes decisions there actually ever use the bus?"

A Translink spokesperson said: “The stop outside the Naval Club on Great Victoria Street was suspended in July as part of bus timetable changes.

“A second stop at Albion Street was suspended earlier this month. These stops were not widely used - alternative stops at Bruce Street and Shaftesbury Square, a short walk away, see higher passenger demand.

“We keep all services and stopping patterns under continuing review.”
