Tributes have been paid to a man from Northern Ireland following his death while on holiday in Thailand.

Philip Howell, who was originally from the Strathfoyle area of Co Derry but had been living in the Waterside area of the city, died on Wednesday, November 6.

McLaughlin Funeral Directors said he is the beloved son of Doris, loved partner of Julie, and cherished brother of Sharon, Jane, Sarah, and Megan. Philip has also been remembered as the loving uncle of Sean, Kevin, Dylan, Ryan, Sara, Callum, Kyle and Mason.

They added that wake and funeral arrangements will be published at a later date when they become available.

Many tributes have been paid to Philip on social media, including from Strathfoyle Community Association, who said: "We regret to inform you that the death has taken place of Philip Howell tragically while on holidays in Thailand on 6th of November 2024. May he rest in peace."

Philip has been remembered as "a true gentleman" and a "sound, decent fella." One social media tribute said: "Our hearts are forever broken. RIP brother until we meet again."

A work colleague described Philip as "a loved and much respected member of the team" at Seagate Technology.

Another tribute added: "Such a sound, decent fella...fond memories of our time at St Brecans...RIP Howelly...our thoughts and prayers are with you Sharon and all the family circle."

"So very sorry to see this sad news. Sending sincere condolences to Doris, his partner and the entire family circle. May he rest in eternal peace," a further tribute added.

Philip is the second person from Northern Ireland to have died abroad this week, with the family of Co Down man Conor Molloy confirming on Friday morning, November 8, he passed away after "fighting for his life" while in Australia.

The Gilford man had been in a coma in Australia, with his family flying out to be with him and a fundraiser being set up in his name days before his passing.
