Two Indian-flagged liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers have successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz despite severe disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, according to international shipping data.
Foreign media, citing data from MarineTraffic and the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), reported that the vessel Pine Gas crossed the strategic waterway first, followed by Jag Vasant.
Both ships are said to have broadcast the message “India ship and crew” as a precautionary measure, signaling their neutral status and non-involvement in the conflict.
The Strait of Hormuz, a critical global energy route, has seen maritime traffic nearly come to a halt due to escalating tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Hundreds of vessels remain stranded in the Persian Gulf, with thousands of seafarers facing uncertainty over food supplies and safety.
The passage of the Indian vessels highlights the urgent need to secure energy supplies, particularly for countries like India that rely heavily on imported fuel. Reports suggest that the Indian Navy is providing necessary security support to ensure the safe transit of these ships.
The development also indicates that, despite the ongoing conflict, limited movement may still be possible for neutral countries transporting essential goods.
However, the route remains highly dangerous for regular commercial shipping, with risks continuing to pose a significant challenge to global trade and energy stability.
