UCF men lose 81-76 to Memphis in AAC tourney

FORT WORTH, Texas — Despite guard C.J. Kelly’s team-high 28 points, the No. 7-seeded UCF men (18-14) fell to No. 2-seeded Memphis 81-76 in Friday night’s AAC quarterfinals in Fort Worth.

The Tigers (24-8), who advance to Saturday’s 4 p.m. semifinal, were led by forward DeAndre Williams, who had a game-high 35 points and 13 rebounds, while guard Kendric Davis had 33 points, 7 assists and 3 blocks. Davis, who tallied 21 points in the second half, shot 10 of 16 (5 of 7 from 3-point range) and 8 of 9 from the free throw line.

Guard Darius Johnson added 15 points and 4 assists for UCF. Big man Michael Durr had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks. Kelly also had 7 rebounds. Guard Ithiel Horton scored 10.

The Knights were hampered by their 41.5% shooting from the field and 16 turnovers. Memphis shot 47.5%, including 47.4 on 3-pointers (9-of-19).

UCF outrebounded Memphis 42-27.
