POCATELLO — It’s that time of year when people buy gifts for their loved ones, and many may be wondering where they can go to support Gate City businesses.
Those people will be able to find local goods at the Valentine Holiday Market, where vendors will showcase their items, crafts and services. This will be on Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 100 South Arthur Ave.
“We have a lot of talent in the area and a lot of local craftsmanship and artesians,” said Mecinna Price, owner of the Valentine Ballroom. “So it’s nice to give them a place to be able to sell to the public.”
This is the third time they’ve held the holiday market, as they started it last year and hold it twice a year. The second market is held in May.
Price said that the market will host vendors that carry clothing, christmas decorations, art from local artists and much more.
“Any time you can keep your dollars in the local community, it’s a good thing,” Price said. “It just makes more sense to buy local and often the quality is better.”
Price said that a lot of the vendors at the market create handmade goods and even do custom orders.
“It’s a little more special, more time’s been put into that,” Price said. “it gives a little more thought to the gift and a lot of times you just can’t get that with buying on Amazon and from other places.”
Sweet Stuff will be serving drinks, but as of now she doesn’t have any food vendors lined up to be at the market. Price is still trying to find vendors to come in before the end of this week.
Price said that the Gate City is a growing community, and people coming out to the market to shop locally helps them participate in that growth.
“If they’re not on social media and seeing these vendors, they’re not really aware of who is in business, new vendors that may have have popped up or new things that are going on in the community,” Price said.
She also said that the market helps people participate in the holiday season.
“Getting out in the community, especially on the holidays, it helps you get in the festive mood,” Price said.
