A California man has gone missing in Mexico, and friends are launching a frantic search to find him.
William “Dean” Trivett, 80, was last seen on the evening of Feb. 11 in the town of Todos Santos, a community in Baja California Sur about an hour north of Cabo San Lucas. According to a missing person poster being distributed by friends, he was last seen driving his Chevy Silverado equipped with a camper. Friend Barnett English said the alarm was raised when Trivett’s dog, Bones, was found wandering without his owner.
Trivett is a “seasoned Baja vet,” and search parties have been organized by friends in the community. Trivett was living in Markleeville, a tiny Sierra community near Tahoe, at the time of his disappearance; he also previously lived in San Diego and has many ties to the area.
“He would never, ever, leave his dog behind, and his phone goes straight to voicemail,” English told ABC10 in San Diego. “He was seen the night before, and is a seasoned Baja traveler, but for him to be separated from his dog is very, very concerning. There is a large and worried community in SoCal and Mexico who are desperately trying to spread the word of his disappearance.”

According to Mexico’s State Search Commission, Trivett was last seen wearing blue jeans and a flannel shirt; he has a tattoo with the word “Deano” or “Dino” on his bicep and is 5-foot-7 with blue eyes. His white 2010 Silverado with the California license plate 6LDE817 is also missing. The search commission says there was a green kayak atop the camper.
