Who painted the shores of the Red Sea pink?

Visitors to the shores of Eilat in the northern Gulf of Aqaba, Red Sea, during March and April in the past two years were met with an unexpected sight—the shores were tinged with a striking pink hue. A closer inspection revealed millions of tiny pink creatures with large eyes.
