Fiction Commendation Award winner Julie Wi
The Korea Times is delighted to announce the winners of its 55th Modern Korean Literature Translation Awards.
This year, the Grand Prize in fiction, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, goes to Wingshun Pang for her translation of novelist Kim Cho-yeop's "Why Don't The Pilgrims Come Back."
The Grand Prize in the poetry category is awarded to Julie Sohn for her translation of poet Choi Seung-ho’s poems including "The Snowman Suicide Incident."
The Commendation Award winner for fiction is Julie Wi for her translation of Park Ji-yeong's “To My Pet Rice Cooker, Cuckoo."
The Commendation Award winners for poetry are Shane Ingan and Lee Jeong-ju for their joint translation of poems by Shin Kyeong-nim, including “Short Thoughts in Early Spring.”
This year's new addition, the Kevin O'Rourke Prize, goes to Nam Jeong-geun and Nam Seo-jeong for their joint translation of Son Young-hee's poems including "Where Did All Heartbeats in the World Go." This award honors the legacy of the late Kevin O’Rourke, a distinguished translator of Korean literature, and is presented in partnership with the Embassy of Ireland in Korea.

The Korea Times extends congratulations to all winners and participants for their dedication and hard work this year. Han Kang's Nobel Prize in Literature highlights the elevated global recognition of Korean literature and through this award, the paper is committed to fostering a new generation of talented translators who will broaden the reach of Korean literature to readers around the world. The Korea Times looks forward to receiving more entries next year as Korean literature’s international presence continues to expand and thrive.
