The history of Mother's Day
The first Mother's Day was celebrated in 1908, in Grafton, West Virginia, by Anna Jarvis. Jarvis's mother, Ann Reeves Jarvis, had been a teacher and a peace activist who had worked for improve the lives of mothers. Jarvis wanted to create a day for honor all mothers, and she chose second Sunday of May because it was her mother's birthday. It became world's mothers day.
This was a popular holiday in the USA, and spread to around the world. Today it is celebrated in over 100 countries.
