Whether you are planning a staycation, a European trip, to the UK or US, these new hotels promise new experiences this year …

Maison Barrière Vendôme: Paris, France

This new boutique hotel has just 26 rooms, inspired by women who left their mark on history, including Simone de Beauvoir, Mata Hari, Audrey Hepburn and Joséphine Baker. Each room features a portrait of its emblematic figure, as well as other biographical details and books. The largest suite is named after George Sand, with a balcony overlooking the Tuileries Gardens and Place Vendôme. The hotel’s restaurant, Le Frida, is named after Frida Kahlo and offers South American-style cuisine. Also of note are the hotel toiletries supplied by Parisian perfumery Officine Universelle Buly. www.hotelsbarriere.com

Chateau de la Commaraine: Burgundy, France

Philanthropist Denise Dupre is behind the transformation of Chateau de la Commaraine into a 37-room luxury hotel. Dupre counts the Royal Champagne Hotel & Spa near Epernay as another property, which is something of a destination hotel in such an idyllic setting. Chateau de la Commaraine will feature two restaurants, a spa and outdoor pool, surrounded by wine estates. www.chateaulacommaraine.com

Casina Cinquepozzi: Puglia, Italy

Jewellery designer Thelma West and former Apple executive Stefano Liotta will open Casina Cinquepozzi, a reimagining of an 18th-century farmhouse near Putignano in Puglia. This ten-room hotel will showcase a “breezy, coastal Italian touch” with the couple hosting guest chefs and other creatives, while also producing their own organic rosé. @casinacinquepozzi

Brenners Park Hotel & Spa: Baden Baden, Germany

This grande dame hotel, loved by A listers such as the Obamas and Beckhams, has undergone a significant renovation. Interiors have had a contemporary update, but there are still plenty of Beaux Art touches. Most guests visit for the scenery – and the Black Forest – as well as its superior spa facilities. www.oetkercollection.com

The Newman: London, UK

Opening this summer, The Newman in Fitzrovia will feature 81 rooms, suites and apartments, reflecting the distinctive character of the district. Paul Brackley of Kinsfolk & Co that manages the property explains, “The Newman will be a grown-up and elevated, but fun experience where people can enjoy thoughtful excellence across design, service, food and wellness – all sewn seamlessly into Fitzrovia life.” www.thenewman.com

Portrush Adelphi: Portrush, Co Antrim

Golfers will know that the iconic Royal Portrush course hosts the 153rd Open in July. The Adelphi has been renovated by Marine and Lawn, known for its hotels adjacent to destination golf courses such as Slieve Donard. Expect 34 rooms decorated in a palette inspired by the land and seascape, hearty dining and a bar at the Red Sail restaurant. Whether you stay for some golf or to explore the Causeway Coast, this four-star gem is sure to provide a supremely comfortable base. www.marineandlawn.com

Palm House: Palm Beach, Florida, USA

No doubt the “Instaqueen of Palm Beach” Suebelle Robbins and her peers will check out this new 79-room hotel on Royal Palm Way, steps from the beach and Worth Avenue. The property marries Palm Beach’s timeless style with modern luxury in a fusion of whimsical modernism. Think Murano glass chandeliers, white tuxedoed bartenders, and Evian sprays in the pool cabanas. Notable artists such as Slim Aarons, Tim MacPherson, Dean West and Brad Walls contribute to the eye-catching artwork throughout. www.palmhouse.com
