Rebellions and Sapeon Korea, two artificial intelligence chipmakers in Korea, have completed their merger process and established an integrated company, company officials said Monday.
The merged entity, expected to have an estimated corporate value of 1.3 trillion won ($927.9 million), has been named Rebellions, with the original Rebellions CEO Park Sung-hyun set to lead the company, according to the officials.
The merger was completed about six months after the two companies announced their integration plan aimed at creating a company with stronger competitiveness in the global AI chip market.
Rebellions was an AI chip fabless startup established in 2020, and Sapeon Korea was an AI chip processor affiliate of SK Telecom, the nation's leading mobile carrier.
The new Rebellions said it plans to make inroads into the United States, Saudi Arabia, Japan and other global markets in cooperation with its strategic investors, like SK Telecom and SK hynix.
The company will also work to gain leadership in PyTorch, an open source machine learning framework, and actively respond to the global AI supply using its chiplet technology, which enables the assembly of various types of chips in a package.
"The reshaping of the global AI semiconductor market has already begun with Nvidia's dominance," Park said, vowing to lead the new company with a sense of duty to foster the nation's AI chip industry. (Yonhap)
