Chinese hackers may have accessed Trump, Vance phones: Report

(NewsNation) — Chinese hackers targeted data from phones used by former President Donald Trump and U.S. Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, according to a New York Times report.

It was unclear whether the hackers could have gained access to data stored on the devices.

The report claims the Trump campaign was made aware of the possible breach this week.

US on alert for election interference from Russia, China, Iran

In a statement to NewsNation, the Trump campaign blamed Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign for the reported hack.

“This is the continuation of election interference by Kamala Harris and Democrats who will stop at nothing, including emboldening China and Iran attacking critical American infrastructure, to prevent President Trump from returning to the White House,” the statement read in part.

Foreign adversaries have shown continued determination to influence the U.S. election, Microsoft said in a recent report.

The U.S. has seen an uptick in cyberattacks from Russia, China and Iran as the election nears, according to the Microsoft Threat Analysis Center.

The current odds in every battleground state

A recent Iranian hack stole material from the Trump campaign, while Microsoft says the Harris campaign is also being targeted.

Groups in Russia recently created and helped spread viral disinformation targeting Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz, according to a senior U.S. intelligence official.
